Number
Get a number
The Voice Agent is on plans that include it. Open your AI Agent's Settings, then Channels and Voice, search for a US or Canadian number by area code and get it. The number comes with your plan, one number answers for one AI Agent, and calls are answered once the AI Agent is published.
Numbers can't be added during the free trial. A test call works then, so you can hear your AI Agent before you get a number.
Forwarding
Keep your own number
- 1Enter your numberUnder the number you got, add the number your customers already call and its carrier. It can be in any country.
- 2Turn on forwardingDial the forwarding code shown for your carrier, so calls to your number reach your OrhanAI number.
- 3Check forwardingPress Check forwarding and call your own number within ten minutes. A short message confirms the call came through, and it uses no AI credits.
SIP
Connect your phone system (SIP)
If your number runs on a phone system such as 3CX, FreePBX or another VoIP provider, it can send calls to your AI Agent over SIP instead, and you don't need a number from us. A SIP connection works during the free trial and doesn't count toward your plan's numbers.
- 1ConnectOn the Voice page, choose Connect your phone system. You get a server, a username and a password. Copy the password then: it is shown again only on request.
- 2Add a SIP trunkIn your phone system, add a SIP trunk that signs in to sip.telnyx.com with that username and password, over UDP or TCP on port 5060 or TLS on port 5061. The Voice page has short guides for 3CX, FreePBX, RingCentral, Zoom Phone and Grasshopper.
- 3Route callsRoute the calls you want answered to the trunk, dialling your business number in full. The status changes from Waiting for first call to Connected when the first call arrives.
To transfer these calls to your team, verify your business number under Transfers with a code sent by text or call. Until then the AI Agent takes a message instead. Only US and Canadian numbers can be verified.

Greeting
The first thing callers hear, in your own words.
Voice
Choose one of 8 voices. Play a short sample of each before you choose.
Questions
Up to 5 questions the AI Agent asks to qualify a caller, such as what they need or how soon.
Departments and transfers
Name the teams callers can be sent to, their numbers and when to transfer. Transfers dial US and Canadian numbers. When nobody answers, the AI Agent takes a message.
Business hours
Set when you are open. After hours the AI Agent handles calls differently, for example by taking a message instead of transferring.
Longest call
The longest a call may last before it ends.
The AI Agent answers calls from the same knowledge as your chat, so training a source improves both.
Test
Test call
Place a test call from the Voice page with your browser's microphone. It answers even while the AI Agent is a draft, works during the free trial, and uses AI credits like a real call.
Inbox
Calls in the Inbox
- Every call is a conversation in the Calls tab of your AI Agent's Inbox, with its transcript, summary and outcome.
- The caller is saved as a contact.
- Calls can't be replied to from the Inbox. Call the person back from your own phone.
Outbound
Outbound call campaigns
On plans that include outbound campaigns, your AI Agent can call a list of US and Canadian contacts for you. Open the AI Agent, then Campaigns. Campaigns can't be started during the free trial, and your plan sets how many calls can be placed each day.
- 1Add contactsUpload a CSV with a phone number column and any other columns you want to use, or pick people from your contacts.
- 2Write the scriptSay what the call is for and what the AI Agent should say, using {{variables}} from your columns such as {{name}}, and set the goal the summary is judged against. Add a voicemail message if you want one left on answering machines.
- 3Choose when and from wherePick the days and hours to call, the caller ID (a number you got from us, or your own number verified for a SIP connection), how many calls run at once (up to 5) and how many attempts each contact gets (up to 3).
- 4Confirm consent and startTick the box confirming every contact agreed to be called, then start. You can pause, resume or stop the campaign at any time.
- Calling hours: each contact is called only in their own local time, and never before 8 AM or after 9 PM there, whatever window you choose.
- Disclosure: every call opens by saying it is an AI assistant calling on behalf of your business.
- Voicemail: when an answering machine picks up, the AI Agent leaves your voicemail message. With no message set, none is left.
- Do Not Call list: a person who asks not to be called again is added to your workspace's Do Not Call list, and no campaign calls a number on it. You can add or remove numbers by hand.
- Retries: a contact who doesn't answer or is busy is called again later, up to the attempts you chose.
- Live results: the campaign page counts answered calls, voicemails, no answers, busy lines and people who asked not to be called, as they happen, and exports the results as a CSV.
- Every call is a conversation in the Calls tab of the Inbox, with its transcript and summary.
You are responsible for having consent to call each contact and for following the laws on calling where they live, such as the TCPA in the United States and Canada's telemarketing rules. The calling hours, the disclosure and the Do Not Call list help, but they don't make a campaign compliant on their own.
Billing
AI credits
Call minutes, incoming and outbound, use AI credits per minute from the same allowance as chat. The Voice page shows how many credits a minute uses. The Voice Agent is not part of the lifetime deal.
